Department of Neurology was established in the year 1986 under Principal Dr. B.M. Goswami. First HOD was Prof. Ajaya Mahanta. Neurophysiology laboratory was established in 1987. DM
(Neurology) courses was started in 2008 with two seats. In 2020 DM seats were increased to four after NMC inspection. Department of Neurology, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital is one of the most
well equipped Neuroscience Centre in North East India.
